Welcome to Year 3

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Year 3. Your teachers this year will be Miss Moore, Mr McDonough and Mrs Foster. If you need to speak with us, please do hesitate to get in touch and we can organise an appointment. The following information points are just useful reminders for yourself and your child.

Useful Information

To help your child be organised we provide the following information.

PE Kits: Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school at all times. Autumn 1, P.E is on Monday and Thursday but in Autumn 2, it will be Monday and Tuesday. Details of all kit and uniform is on the website.

Reading: Year 3 children are expected to read to their parents/carers/family three times each week and we ask that you sign your own initials to confirm that the reading is actually taking place.Children who do have three signatures in their book each week will qualify for a Friday treat which will be an extended playtime. Books will be changed every Monday and Friday. If your child finishes their school reading book then they can always read a boook from home till they receive a new one.

Homework Children will be tested on their times tables and spellings every Friday.Children will be given their spellings to learn on a Monday and although we have a few spelling lessons each week , they are still expected to learn them at home in what ever way suits them.

Computer Tasks  All children have been given Log in details to three programs which we think we benefit them if they use them at home. These are Bug Club, Timestables Rockstar and Maths Whizz. Please let me know if you are having problems logging on.

Maths: This half term we will be focussing on place vaue and basic number facts such as doubles and halves up to 20, number bonds to 10 and 20 and addition and subtraction number pairs upto 9.

Our Topic for the first term is the Stone Age which upto now the children are really enjoying. Alongside that we have science topics on Rocks /Soils and Magnetism and in geography we will be working on basic mapping skills and Location as well as Volcanoes

Active Hope Project.

On Thursday 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th of November the children will be taking part in an outdoor project called- Which Way Now. On these days the children will need to bring warm, waterproof clothes in a bag so they can change into them before they go out. The children must come to school in their uniform so they can change back into it at lunch time. A letter will be sent out after half term as a reminder.

After half term, the class will be having a judo session each week for one of their P.E lessons. These sessions are great fun and include lots of games and activities. A judo specialist will be delivering this lesson ( Not Mr Mc Donough)!!

I hope you find this information useful and if you have any queries please do not hesitate in contacting us.
