English

Our English curriculum covers all aspects of the English language. Our priority is to develop our written and spoken English through a love of reading.  English is at the heart of our curriculum and develops and improves basic skills, as well as helping children, at all levels, master the technicalities of the English language.

We follow the Essential Letters and Sounds Synthetic Systematic Phonic programme and our reading is initially based on phonetically decodable books that support the ELS scheme. This is followed by the use of a range of texts from Oxford Reading Tree, Big Cat and ordinary fiction and non-fiction books. In addition, from Year 2 we follow the Pathways to Read scheme.

If you're looking for books for your children to read we can recommend this one:

Cross Curricular Activities

At St Andrew's we aim to make as many links with other subjects as possible. This helps to reinforce learning and encourages the children to remember new ideas and concepts.
